MICHELIN X Multi T2 delivers more mileage and lower fuel costs for trailers

• New generation trailer tyre offers up to 15 per cent more mileage than its predecessor.

• X Multi T2 has a 6 per cent lower rolling resistance than first generation fitment.

• Advanced technologies ensure grip and mobility throughout the tyre’s service life.

Michelin has revealed the MICHELIN X Multi T2 in the popular UK and Ireland sizing of 385/65 R22.5 at IAA Transportation 2026 in Hannover.

The trailer tyre is designed for regional transport and mixed transport profiles. It can handle heavy loads, withstand lateral forces during manoeuvring while remaining robust across varying operating conditions.

Compared with the previous generation tyre, the MICHELIN X Multi T2 achieves up to 15 per cent higher mileage and up to six per cent lower rolling resistance. 

Versatile and durable

From a technical perspective, the MICHELIN X Multi T2 focuses on robustness and carcass stability. It is the solution for heavy-duty and versatile trailer applications, ranging from general cargo, container and refrigerated transport to tanker and bulk goods transport, as well as car, specialised and heavy-haul transport. 

In these sectors, high peak loads, tight manoeuvring and varying road conditions are common, all of which have a direct impact on tyre service life. A robust carcass and a damage-resistant tread design contribute directly to the tyre’s cost-effectiveness.

Advanced technologies

To achieve this Michelin relies on four key innovations. REGENION technology for its tread design – as the tyre is used, new grooves form, maintaining grip and mobility throughout its entire service life. The CARBION tread compound improves mileage, rolling resistance and wear resistance. 

In the inner structure, OPTICOIL is a bead architecture that saves weight, and DURACOIL reinforces the bond between the tyre and the rim, thereby increasing stability. 

In addition, Michelin uses POWERCOIL, a new generation of lighter and more durable steel cables.

The MICHELIN X Multi T2 is also a multi-life product that can be re-grooved and re-treaded to unlock significant TCO savings.

The manufacturer’s multi-life offer sees tyres regrooved once the tread depth reaches 3-4mm, helping to extend each casing’s life in its most fuel-efficient state. Once the regrooved tyres have worn, they can be retreaded as Michelin Remix tyres at Michelin’s factory in Stoke – a process which requires, on average, only 20kg of raw materials to be added to the worn casing, compared with a new tyre which requires around 70kg. 

Retread tyres are manufactured under the local-to-local concept: a commitment that all retreads are used exclusively with the UK & Ireland. This supports skilled UK jobs and negates the environmental impact of exporting.

Under the EU tyre labelling scheme, the MICHELIN X Multi T2 achieves rolling resistance class B, wet grip class C and external rolling noise class A. The tyre bears the 3PMSF and M+S markings for winter suitability.
