Michelin launches mileage-boosting X Coach Z for long-distance and regional operators
Michelin has launched a new multi-position coach tyre that delivers a potential mileage improvement of up to 16 per cent over its predecessor.
Bringing peace of mind to coach operators, the new 295/80 R 22.5 Michelin X Coach Z can be fitted on both steer and drive axles and carry both the M+S (Mud + Snow) and 3PMSF (Three Peak Mountain Snowflake) sidewall markings, which are testament to the tyre’s high level of grip in all weather conditions. This proven level of winter performance also reduces wheel interventions by eliminating the need for fleets to switch to dedicated winter tyres when planning winter travel to many countries* on the continent.
Combining two innovative technologies, Regenion and InfiniCoil, the new, robust tyre is perfect for long-distance and regional coach operations.
As part of Michelin’s global product strategy, the Michelin X Coach Z delivers long-lasting performance with a regenerating tread pattern. This comprises a tread design that changes as it wears, with grooves and water clearing channels opening up in the later stages of the tyre’s life.
The new groove design also helps maximise the contact patch, putting more rubber in contact with the ground, ensuring high levels of wet grip throughout the tyre’s life.
Chris Smith, Michelin’s B2B Sales Director, says: “The X Coach Z is an amazingly versatile product that will maintain performance through all seasons. With its robust construction comes increased reliability and minimised downtime as well as reduced noise levels for drivers and passengers.”
Michelin has achieved these new standards in tyre performance by combining two of its latest generation technologies, Regenion and InfiniCoil.
Regenion is the name used to describe the differently shaped grooves which ensure minimal tread deformation, and which lower rolling resistance leading to less fuel consumption. The longitudinal grooves regenerate as the tyre wears, to deliver a high level of grip and traction throughout its lifecycle in all weather conditions. Michelin engineers used ground-breaking 3D metal printing techniques to manufacture the complex moulds, enabling them to produce the sophisticated tread patterns and profiles that emerge as the tyre wears.
InfiniCoil is a separate technology which features the introduction of a continuous steel cable around the entire crown block. It provides an improved wear pattern and greater casing endurance, helping to deliver an increased mileage potential of up to 16%.
At the same time, the robust tyre structure has a 7.5 tonne load carrying capacity when fitted in single formation across the front steer axle.
The Michelin X Coach Z is available now in the 295/80 R 22.5 dimension and is suitable for regrooving and retreading, which is proven to save money, raw materials and help reduce operating costs.
