Michelin celebrates safety milestone

Michelin in Ballymena is celebrating reaching 3,000,000 working hours without any time lost as a result of accidents in 2014 – and employees are being urged to ‘watch out’ for each other in 2015.

Summary

Last year the Raceview Road manufacturer gave shopfloor employees a ‘belt watch’ to mark the milestone as part of its Watch Out campaign. The initiative encourages colleagues to continue to ‘watch out’ for one another in the workplace and stay vigilant when it comes to safety.

The campaign has been so successful it will now be rolled out to other Michelin factory sites.

Jimmy Fenton, site safety manager at Michelin, said: “Every employee should feel very proud of this achievement as they’ve all played a key role in accomplishing it and in making Michelin a safer place to work.

“This outstanding safety record demonstrates the commitment of our employees to work in a safe environment and our ‘Watch Out’ campaign marks Michelin’s ongoing obligation to ensure its employees have a secure place to work.

“We wanted to reward our employees for these efforts with the commemorative watches which serve as a reminder not to become complacent, but to continue to focus on the safety of everyone in the workplace.

“We’re particularly proud that our safety practices are now being implemented at other Michelin facilities.”

The Ballymena site was also awarded a Michelin Group Safety Award, in 2014 – an award that recognises the importance that is placed on safety and safety training.
