Michelin celebrates win at TyreSafe Awards 2014.
Michelin is celebrating after taking home the prestigious Outstanding Contribution Award at this year’s TyreSafe Awards, following a series of unique tyre safety initiatives.
The leading tyre manufacturer, based in Campbell Road, Stoke-on-Trent, was presented with the accolade for its exceptional efforts in raising awareness of tyre safety through a series of innovative campaigns, as well as promoting the importance of tyre care and maintenance.
The TyreSafe Awards, which recognise achievements in promoting tyre safety, praised Michelin’s powerful initiatives including its long-running Fill Up With Air (FUWA) campaign, which involves tyre experts travelling the UK checking the pressure and condition of tyres and offering free maintenance and safety advice to motorists.
Michelin’s work engaging young people on the topic of road and tyre safety was also commended. Working initially with Staffordshire Safer Roads Partnership, Michelin devised and delivered an educational theatre show in colleges and schools, using life-size puppets to highlight the importance of safe driving among young people.
Phil Baldock, Communications Manager for Michelin in the UK and Ireland, said: "It's a real privilege for Michelin to receive the TyreSafe Outstanding Contribution Award. Michelin is a founding member of TyreSafe, and road safety has been at the heart of our ethos for more than a century.
“We're delighted that initiatives such as our Fill Up With Air campaign and the innovative puppet shows we put on at schools have been recognised for making a real difference, but there is a lot more to do. Illegal and defective tyres can cost lives and the whole industry has to come together to drive up standards and consumer knowledge."
